    Le Prince Héritier Muhammad al-Senussi est l'héritier officiel de la monarchie libyenne, qui a existé de 1950 jusqu'à la prise du pouvoir par coup d'état de Kadhafi.

     

    L'un des cousins du Prince héritier, le Prince Idris, fils du Prince Abdallah al-Senussi dit "le Prince Noir", est aussi un personnage influent parmi l'opposition anti-Kadhafi. Il a déja tenté par le passé une opération contre le leader libyen, et tient une sorte d'avant-garde à l'étranger dans l'opposition publique au régime Kadhafi.
